What is happening, peeps?! Music has been an extremely important part of my life, bringing me much joy, a passion in school, friendships, inspiring teachers, a light to my creativity, and led me to the love of my life. I owe a lot to song and how it allows me escape my troubles, dream, and imagine, friends who never leave me and words that express feelings I at times am puzzled to explain.
Since I am a fan of CDs and still ask for a handful every year for holidays and I-Tunes cards, I thought it would be fun to make a soundtrack to my life. Now, these songs may not express feelings in my life, but are more themes for milestones and I will have a sentence explaining each one’s reason for being on my playlist. And we are going in order, from my birth to currently. ^_^
Clicking on the title of each song will take you to a Youtube video of that song. ^_^ All credit goes to each video owner.
Please enjoy and escape in an array of music:
The Soundtrack to my Life:
- Faith- George Michael (This was the most popular song on the billboard chart for the year I was born).
- Barney and Friends Theme Song (My favorite show as a very young one)
- Ducktails Theme Song (Another song from my wee years, but I watched one more at my grandma’s house and it fills me with warm memories of my second home).
- Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Theme Song (This came out when I was four and it is still an obsession for me, leading me down the path of culture, nerdom, and trying to be a good person like them. It also came out the year my brother was born, so it has a meaning there too).
- Aladdin- Friend Like Me (My second movie at the theater when I was four, but the first to hold my interest. Introduced me to Robin Williams and is my dad’s favorite Disney song. I guess this was my first exposure to Disney too)
- The Circle of Life- Lion King (My favorite Disney movie of all time. It holds a very dear place in my heart, happy memories, and is a movie I memorized).
- Far Longer Than Forever- Swan Princess (One of my favorite movies growing up. The prince’s name was Derek too, which I found touching).
- The Music of The Nutcracker (I got to see The Nutcracker at the FOX when I was 9 and it is now a favorite of mine, allowing me to dream and wonder).
- Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear- Elvis (I saw a special on Elvis when I was nine and got hooked on the man, learning everything about him, collecting, and begging to go to Graceland that summer! This is my favorite song, although I love many).
- Pokémon season 1 opening (You all know how much I love Pokémon! I owe this series so much. Plus, this song always cheers me up when I’m down. Gotta Catch em’ All!)
- Veggie Tales theme song (I started church right after I turned 11 and I recall learning all the Bible tales from these adorable talking vegetables.)
- Rockin’ Robin- Michael Jackson (We sang this for a district choir contest in 6th grade with dance moves and the crowd went nuts! This reminds me of this amazing school I got to attend. This was my first year in audition choir and started a wonderful journey),
- Bye, Bye, Bye- N*SYNC (Ah! Love these fellows. I remember feeling like a teen when the debate on them verses The Backstreet Boys was the norm. Good times.)
- Can’t Buy Me Love- The Beatles (My first exposure to The Beatles and we sang this in 7th grade choir. I had a lot of fun with it).
- Cardcaptor theme song (My first anime I knew was anime and my first manga. This show literally changed my life in so many magical ways).
- Yu-Gi-Oh! opening (Time to duel! A classic that allowed me to become “The Chick That Duels” and gain some epic experiences and pals. I was in 7th grade when it came out).
- Kingdom Hearts Opening (When I played the first game and finally found a video game series (with Pokémon) I could sink my teeth into)
- Unchained Melody- The Righteous Brothers (Sang this in 8th grade choir and found out it was dad’s favorite song).
- Barbie Girl- AQUA (The first song I realized had a hidden meaning and the first time I recall getting embarrassed at my mom when she sang this at Wal-Mart).
- Footloose (I worked at my mom’s clothing store in early high school and this was the first song on a soundtrack that played all the time. I like the movie too).
- All I Can Do- Jump 5 (This song was the first one I heard that helped me get the plot going for “Spirit Vision” my freshmen year in high school).
- Sailor Moon theme song (I bought the whole series burnt in Japanese on eBay on my own and watched them before going to summer school before I entered 10th grade. Yeah, another series that changed my life and inspired me to grow my hair).
- You Take My Breath Away- Queen (The first time I danced with Derrick, this song was playing).
- For The Longest Time- Billy Joel (Derrick sang a solo in this, he said having the courage because he wanted to do it for me)
- Pack She Back To She Ma (Another song the Men Chorus sang that had us all rolling and cheering, making me think of good times)
- Penny Lane- The Beatles (I played Penny Lane in my first play with a wonderful director)
- Ain’t She Sweet?- The Beatles (Men’s Chorus sang this my junior year and I got to see some of my closest friends in choir then and Derrick being confident)
- Calendar Girl- Neil Sedaka (Men’s Chorus sang this at the end of my junior year and my bestie Andrew brought me on stage and gave me flower. Each boy gave their girls gifts and it was epic).
- Ice, Ice, Baby- Vanilla Ice (This was the last song played at my prom. And yes, it was James Bond since we were 07),
- Seasons of Love- RENT (My graduation of song I’ve always loved).
- Othello Rap- The Reduced Shakespeare of Company (These gentlemen got me to love Shakespeare and grow in confidence in my college years. WARNING: Song has some content)
- We Didn’t Start the Fire- Billy Joel (My first full essay in college, I had to write about one of the lyrics in this song. The intensity of this song reflected the transition into an adult during my college years well)
- All My Love- Yui Horie (My first Yui Horie song that exposed me to not only more anime, but mostly the beauty of oriental music)
- At the Beginning- Anastasia soundtrack (Probably my favorite non-Disney movie from childhood, but this was the first dance song we played at our wedding)
- Good Night, my Angel- Billy Joel (Derrick’s dance with his mom at our wedding and one of my favorite with how tender it was)
- Blaze– Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles season 1 opening (My first cosplay for my first con was Sakura from Tsubasa and I went as a group with Derrick, Miles, and Nathan. It was a great time)
- Disillusion– Fate Stay Night opening 1 (The first anime I showed my Anime Club and it reminds me of the bond I have with these students and my start into a new district)
- Fighter- GLEE (I had a major turn in my life this year with sickness and betrayal, this song helps me get those tight feelings out).
