The school year is over! ^=^ How am I going to celebrate? ANIME! <3 These are animes I WISHED had dubs. I’ve seen them all before in Japanese. Look them up, research, and read my paragraphs of passion, lol, we can give them the exposure they need and maybe one day, get the dubs these shows deserve so a wider audience can be reached. =)
Top 15 Animes I WISH Had Dubs:
- Cute Earth Defense Club– “A show following the magical girl’s trope, but with normal high school guys! They even know it’s ridiculous, but they deal with the frilly, colorful attire and elemental powers to save the world from kawaii, but angry monsters! I LITERALLY can HEAR who the English actors would be! And they transform by saying, ‘ Love Making!’ LOL!”
- School Babysitters- “Adorable, precious toddlers going through life at daycare! WHY do we NOT have this in English yet? Plus, the love between our brothers will melt your heart.”
- Kimi Ni Todoke– “This is a well-loved and touching love story that beautifully shows the innocence of love. It has two seasons. The couple is iconic! Why it’s not dubbed, I don’t understand!”
- Jun Jou Romantica – “One of the OG BL stories that helped make it more mainstream and known by USA audiences. It has three seasons, ROCKING theme songs, and is too steamy to not enjoy. With the incredibleness of ‘The Love Stage’ dub, there is no excuse! The English cast would RULE this!”
- Kobato – “This is the ONLY CLAMP series (my favorite manga-ka) that is an anime that IS NOT DUBBED (other than the 90s Miyuki-chan in Wonderland OVA!) NANI?! For the honor of the influential, breathtaking arts by CLAMP, this injustice can be corrected! No; needs to be! Plus, the story is grand and charming.”
- Itazura Na Kiss– “Another iconic romance manga that has been turned into an anime and a few live-action shows/dramas across the East. Plus, the manga-ka is sadly deceased. This rom-com is fun, entertaining, and unique in that it follows two leads through a decade of their lives. This story and artist should be honored with a dub so more can love it.”
- Lovely Complex: Love Com – “This rom-con is a riot! The tallest girl in school had a friendly rivalry with the shortest guy in class, but chaos ensues! So engaging, cute, and the music star odd, but catchy as heck!”
- Sanrio Boys – “Ummmm… a show about high school boys that bond over their secret love for ‘Hello Kitty’ characters that have helped them get through hardships in life?! YES PLEASE! Is it a cash grab? Yep, and I don’t care! A colorful anime that has some surprising heartwrenching moments, this would be an easy sell in a country that loves this kawaii kitty girl who shares a birthday with me. ;)”
- The Rose of Versailles – “One of the first animes to showcase female empowerment and be an inspiration to the yuri genre, this anime from the 1970s is stunning, historical be inspired/slightly based on the French Revolution, and shows how perfect and detailed ‘old school’ animation is. In an age where classics can be appreciated and funded by loyal fans, it should surely be done!”
- Gakuen Alice – “Before ‘My Hero Academia,” There was ‘Alice Academy!’ Students who have powers go to this special school to take classes in order to help society in secret with their gifts. The main girl supposedly doesn’t have any powers but wants to be with her best friend. Powers. Quirks. Academy. Helping others. A main character who is ‘powerless…’ Sound familiar? ^_- This manga was so popular around 2007. A dub is a delayed need, a gem for ‘My Hero’ fans.”
- La Corda d’Oro Primo Passo – “A lovely anime about a music contest based on a dating video game. Pretty animation and music, neat characters, and two seasons ready, this dub would be a no-brainer.”
- Kamichama Karin – “A different take on magical girls by the popular manga-ka ‘Koge,’ the cuteness mixed with a gothic undertone and using Greek Mythology, these massive-eyed characters will capture your attention.”
- Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne – “The manga-ka, Arina-sama, is one of my favorites ever. Sadly, only two of her outstanding works have been adapted into animes. The other one, ‘Full Moon,’ had its first season dubbed (not its second.) This is the only other manga that has an anime series and also has two seasons. So, in theory, it SHOULD have a dub too! Arina-sama needs more respect and love! In addition, the story follows a magical girl art thief that steals paints who had is possessed by demons in order to save the world. And her best friend, an aspiring officer, is after the identity of this elusive thief.”
- Nagasarete Airantou – “Okay! This one is so insane, but I know it would stick! A boy gets in a shipwreck and washes up on an island…of only women! The teenage girls have never seen a man since their fathers and brothers left when they were all babies/toddlers and never came back. Desperate to re-populate their nation, all the girls want our ‘hero.’ And I do mean WANT! There are also insane monsters everyone on this island! Yes, the description is as good as it sounds. Plus, my girl, Yui Horie, sings all the killer themes and is the voice of the main girl.”
- Kotoura-san – A fun and heart-warming anime about a shy high school girl with psychic powers, trauma always wedged in her heart. But a darling boy sees the greatness that is her and expands her world. How honest and caring he is to Kotoura are couple goals. And I love psychic abilities. I wish more people knew about this show. A dub would surely help with that.”
