If you want to meet the sweetest, bubbliest, and most fun person ever, look no further than Lacey! Her kindness is grander than a fairy godmother in fairy tales, her warmth brings you happiness and just makes you feel special, seen. Let’s get to know this cloud of starlight! ^_^
- What are your three favorite memories of us?
- Plenty of shared rehearsals for the one year I took choir class with you in high school! Girls-only choir is always a fun time.
- I read through both Cardcaptor series because I happened to read one manga novel as a middle schooler and saw you carrying some around. I am still grateful you loaned me those. It sparked a love for anime and manga that I still carry as an adult!
- Any time I take playing Cards Against Humanity with you and the other Otaku girls nowadays is time well spent!
- How did anime and manga find your life?
- I started watching Pokémon as an elementary schooler. I jumped from that to Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh a few years later, then found Naruto and Inuyasha once I became a high schooler. Cardcaptors was the first manga series that I completed, but I followed Vampire Knight and Naruto for a few years when I started college.
- What type of bender would you be in The Avatar universe?
- I would be a fire bender!
- What five bands/singers speak to your soul and represent you?
- Evanescence, Red, Rush, Linkin Park, and Beethoven.
- What anime world would you want to be thrown into?
- My Hero Academia, but only up until season 4 starts.
- You are a Pokémon master. Your team has to have a Pokémon that starts with a letter from your first name (with one extra for whoever you want.) what would your team of six be following these rules?
- Togekiss, Goodra, Alakazam, Gengar, Garchomp, and Lucario.
- As an educator, what is your mission?
- I want to reach neurodivergent kids and make sure they have an outlet where they feel accepted, whether that’s in music, a sport, or some after-school club. Everyone deserves to feel free to be themselves and be accepted. I want to foster an environment where kids can grow into good-hearted adults.
- If you could insure anyone with health issues, what would you say or show them to help?
- Getting proper sleep is key to managing my mental health. I know it sounds obvious, but I powered through a good part of my adult life on as little sleep as possible until my waking life became a constant migraine and issues with depression. Especially if you are like me and have close relatives who deal with severe mental problems, you can save yourself a lot of heartaches if you learn to take care of yourself on a physical level. Along with that, don’t stop bugging your doctor about finding the right mental health medication for yourself if that is what you need. Never be afraid to ask for help.
- Name the first three characters with glasses (from any media) that pop into your head!
- Oh crud. Uhhhhhh – Ignatz from Fire Emblem Three Houses, Weevil Underwood from Yu-Gi-Oh, and Tombo Kopoli from Kiki’s Delivery Service.
- Our friendship means so much to me. You’re sweet, caring, funny. What does our friendship mean to you?– I’m very grateful to have a senpai figure who is still in my life as a friend in our adulthood. I love how much you care about people and I admire your enthusiasm in all you do, even if it’s something seemingly small. I’ve enjoyed being able to watch you flourish as a teacher and an author, and I can’t wait to see where life takes you next.
Questions Lacey Asked Me:
- I‘m stealing one of yours to ask you in return, “As an educator, what is your mission?- “I want every child to feel safe and loved and also shine by being themselves. I want them to be the light, the respect, for the world. And I want them to see they are worth so match and life is a gift. I want that for every person.”
- When did you first start watching Sailor Moon? Was this your first anime? If not, which one did you watch first?- “Ha! I didn’t watch the early 00s Sailor Moon dub. I didn’t know what anime was until I started watching Pokémon and Cardcaptor on Saturday mornings on WB. I knew the animation was different so I looked it up in middle school on dial-up internet (goodness! Those were the days!) and found out it was something called ‘anime.’ I kept doing more research and I discovered this famous one called Sailor Moon, I found a listing on eBay back in 2004, all five seasons and four specials in Japanese but English dubbed, on BURNT DVDs for desktops for $40! I recall giving my mom cash and she got them for me. I was so stocked to get it! Probably how I became so good at subtitles, lol. It was missing season 3 though, which my mom was nice to get me the VHS set, all 12, of those on eBay other the years. Some are worth a lot. I started watching the summer between my summer freshman and sophomore year of high school, before summer PE class I took in the afternoons for a credit. Lol! And I was hooked! This was a big year and Sailor Moon was part of it. It made me research anime, decide to grow my hair out, and made me want to find love, which I did that year. 🙂 It led to this wonderful life I have now with amazing people like you.
- How long has the Spirit Vision plot lived inside of your imagination? “I started writing Spirit Vision in high school, my freshman year. My brother and I were heavily into Sonic Adventure 2 for the GameCube. Umbra and Maren take inspiration from that. I also liked books about spirits. So after Mr. Banger, my freshman language teacher, accidentally gave me the drive to try to write more than poetry, but a full book. From then until two weeks later, I was seeing inspiration everywhere, like my third eye opened up. Then bam! I had 85% of Spirit Vision in my head. Took me four years to write, but I did it.”
- Same question for the Hunter and the Bringer series!- “The Hunter and The Bringer” I started composing 7-8 years ago. I was in a writing group and we were all deciding what to write. I love young adult, but I wanted to venture beyond just that. And being an early childhood teacher, I needed to be leery. But, I recall vividly staring at the screen and it all clicked, a question escaping from me: “You know…what happened to the days when monsters were just evil?” Bam! I started writing chapter 1, this lore and kick butt woman filling my mind. Then, I wanted to make a counter. I thought a rich pretty boy would be fun. I closed my eyes and just started typing his dialogue. No thinking. When I read it, I was like ‘What the heck?!’ But I knew it was all him and so, I didn’t change it. Jeremey is the character that does what he wants the most and I’ve accepted that! Lol!”
- Which RWBY character is your favorite? And which RWBY ship is your favorite? (mine is probably Bumbleby-) “Oh! That’s hard. There are many good ones. I really liked Jaune and Pyrrha. Rin and Nora are great too! I do have a list though of my favorite ships HERE!”
