Winnie the Pooh has been a beloved icon in our world for over 100 year now. Just like my grandma has been to me. She is my favorite person, one of the brightest lights that shaped my world, my inspiration to be a good person, my true, unique self, and to embrace the precious gifts of this universe. She adored Winnie the Pooh, often telling me how sweet they were, cute, and she loved their ‘little houses.’ The characters always made her smile, and they fit her. Timeless. Warm. Filled with child-like wonder, but still has an understanding and mature spirit, be a comfort to all she encounters. This franchise she loved fit her to a T, a perfect pair like Winnie the Pooh and her favorite, Piglett.
This…our first birthday of hers (April 5th) without her, since she went to Heaven on Christmas Eve, 2023.
Winnie the Pooh will now be more cherished by me, his endearing honesty, loyalty to friendship, and pure wise words. I have used them and shared them my whole life: Tigger has always been my favorite and I sing his song and became my special plushie I bought at Disney World. I give posters all my students sign to my high school senior helpers with a Winnie the Pooh quote on it, its tenderness helping them always recall the impact they made in these littles’ lives.
And I used my favorite as the ending quote at the reading I did at my grandma’s funeral:
Cherish those you love always.
