Authors Spotlight Questions- Adam Pfaff
When you wake up in the morning, how do you see life? – As the eternal bliss of a new range of opportunities, all opened with the promise of the arising sunlight, which illuminates the heart and soul.
How did writing find its way into your life? – Pretty much by accident. I was deeply and chronically depressed for a spell, back in 1997, as I had to quit, due to a severe ankle injury, playing my beloved soccer. (Was a goalie.) I saw a therapist, and he suggested I put my feelings into words through poetry; eventually he suggested I submit some poems, which I did, they were accepted, and I was immediately sold!
What does writing do for you? – For me, writing is very cathartic, it brings meaning to the world, and helps me speak out things I’d be far too shy to say otherwise. It as well helps me to describe things which I see, and would have difficulty describing but through the magic of writing.
What sort of genre or type of writing do you do? – I do poetry almost exclusively. I have tried other mediums of writing, yet have not truly found it to be for me, do now have a poetry book in progress (my second) as well as a screenplay (more on that a few lines down.)
Do events in your life or people you know affect your writing? – Mostly others affect my writing in that they will sometimes say something which I then wish to use in my poem!
What are you currently working on or what was the last thing you wrote? – Last thing I wrote was a poetry book, titled “Night Walker”. Am currently in the planning stages of my second poetry book; and am actually also in talks to write a screenplay based on the book “Spirit Vision”, by our own beloved Morgan Straughan Comnick! Lastly, as of today I was recruited to write PR essays/articles for an aerobatic pilot at a local airport.
Can you tell us a little about it and its inspiration? – I honestly am not sure of the inspiration/origin story for “Night Walker”, I think it just sort of fell into place without my even realizing it. My inspiration for the second book is more planned from the start in wanting to better myself from my first book, and add poems I felt I had to disclude from the original book. Inspiration for the screenplay came from reading her book and truly seeing clearly the acting side of it. (Am also an actor/director.) The PR gig is the result of getting a phone call and accepting the duty.
What are your goals for the future? – My goals for the future are to basically get as involved with aviation as I can, as well as to find independence and a paycheck doing either writing or acting. (Or both!)
What are your interests or hobbies? – My interests and hobbies are: flying; writing; swimming; singing (anything from classic rock to opera to adult alternative); and being outdoors as much as possible.
If you could be a superhero, what are your powers and how would you use them to help the world? – If I were a superhero, my powers would be to save the world from poverty, violence, hatred, and wars.
What advice would you give people who want to write? – Be patient and let it come to you. It will. No need to rush it. Remember, I did not at all like to do much writing until I was nearly 23!
If you could be remembered for one thing or thought, what would it be? – That I understood, and that I cared. Because I really pride myself on that.
Example of work: –
“I wish I could write, but one poem o’ the land. A poem for you o’ the heart,
this poem in your hand.
I wish the world could see, a poem so delightful. O’ to ease the world’s
wounds, make life ever less frightful.
Some may say, to write a poem for the world; is ridiculous. But I see
a dream, a cloud, a time of innocence.
For the world needs a poem, needs laughter, needs a smile. Maybe these
words, carry them on, carry them on
for a long mile and mile.
I wish I could write, this all shalst you all see. Let’s hope it gets seen, let’s
hope for prayer, freedom, peace, and liberty.
For the world needs a poem, needs kindness, less bloodshed. Needs more
blue, white, pink, yellow, less red.
Doubt all you will read, these words thus I write. If passed down to you by
another, well, then with me it is quite alright.
I just wish, just want, just hope this reaches you all. Maybe too much to ask.
Maybe it’ll happen; by later this fall.
Let’s take in oceans, lapping, cooling, your toes at the beach. Or a walk in the
woods, listening to birds, hearing them screech.
If harmony is what the world needs, then please take my advice. Live regret free.
Live each day, as if it ’twere last. Life goes so gently on, so don’t be colder than
ice.
Listen to thunder, hear it be gentle. Listen to wind, it sounds so ornamental. Listen
to rain, hear it’s tapping on rooftops. Go on outside, stick out your tongue. Catch
all those drops.
I wish I could write, a poem all the land. That is why, oh why, I take this task upon
hands. By the time you have read, all of you, all of mankind, I hope then, I pray,
it is peace, happiness, joy, harmony, freedom, laughter, hope, caress, loving, that you
that all you shall find.
~Peace~”
