For the honor of OTAKUDOM! We have the power! <3 😉 I got to meet a wonderful, confident in her geeky ways girl the summer before she entered my high school, my senior year. It was at our local college’s drama camp I loved and always did. We had so much fun and similar energy. For some odd reason, this lovely girl named Amber thought it was ‘cool’ to have a senior nerdy friend. LOL! Me being cool is a riot to me still, but that is beside the point. Her other freshmen female nerds all wanted to meet me and they were all so fun and sweet. Amber, her freshmen posse, and mom made my senior year welcoming and I had so many fun experiences (listed below.)
Amber is spunky and honest, passionate about all her loves. Fiesty and hard-working. Once you get into her inner circle, she is loyal, true, and very kind for life. I am lucky to be a part of that. I cherish we get to nerd out still as adults and honeys, we rock it! Come get to know this beautiful, sassilious, hardcore, kind, and tender Otaku, gamer, cosplayer, media star, dreamer, creative, and friend: Amber!
CHECK OUT THE ASPIRING AUTHOR INTERVIEW I DID WITH AMBER ON THIS SITE A WHILE BACK! =D
Meet Amber Interview:
* What are your three favorite memories of us together over the years? Probably our anime club meetings and that one time at theater camp.
* If you could have your dream job, what would you do? An archeologist focused on cultural items from Japan.
* Describe your Yugioh deck and some cards you’d use in it that reflect your skill set, personality, and interests. Basically anything Mai Valentine uses in the show.
- Girl, same! Mai is my girl! 😉
* I know ramen is one of your favorite foods. What would be the perfect bowl of ramen for you and what’d be in it? Miso broth, two boiled eggs, tofurkey, veggies, and rice noodles.
* How did you discover anime/manga and what does being an Otaku mean to you? Oh, gee, I don’t really remember; anime has always been a part of my life. Apparently, my mom used to be into it when I was born so I guess she watched a lot of it with me. I didn’t discover manga till I was around 11 when I found a Shonen Jump at Country Mart. Personally, I consider myself a weeb, but otaku works as well. It gives me a type of happiness that I can’t really explain.
* You are forming your own crack team in the RWBY universe from a new, ultimate bad. Which four characters (good or evil, dead or alive) would you select AND why? Don’t forget their team name. Um, wow! Okay, let me see. Nora, Vine, Miss Malachite, and Robin: NVMR (Nevermore.)
* How did you meet Sammie? In like 2nd grade.
* How do you relax and express your creativity? I’m starting to get back into making YouTube videos and working on my social media presence.
* What four mangas do you enjoy represent your different moods? “Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon,” when I want a good yuri romcom, “Inuyasha” when I feel nostalgic, “Wotokoi” when I just want a romcom, and ‘Fruits Basket’ when I need a slice of life.
* Our friendship means so much to me. Your spunk, bravery, accepting nature, and heart of gold are so admirable. I adore you and our relationship. What does our friendship mean to you AND have I taught you anything? We are Team She-Ra! I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m spunky or brace but thank you. It means a lot you think that highly of me. It means never giving up on yourself and embracing your faults.
Questions Amber Asked Me:
1. If you had to pick a moment, when did you discover anime and manga? – “‘Power Rangers’ was my first Japanese show and ‘Pokemon’ my first anime, yet, I had no clue they were treasures from The Land of the Rising Sun. I became hooked on this charming show on Saturday Morning Kids WB called ‘Cardcaptors’ when I was in 7th grade. I even had a fan site for eight years since I was 14 and met so many friends from this magical fandom. I would look up kawaii fansites online (on dial-up Internet…those were the days.) Then I discovered ‘Cardcaptors’ was translated from a Japanese cartoon called ‘anime…’ Ummm…which lead to more research and my life was forever altered for the better! ^_^
Two years later, I asked my mom for these colored ‘Cardcaptor’ companion books we saw at Hastings for Christmas. She accidentally bought me these black and white graphic novels that read backward. I admitted; I was disappointed. Two weeks later, I was bored and I sat to try to read one. It was the best thing I ever absorbed with my eyes, mind, and soul! ^_^ Again, this experience made me who I was meant to be. Both anime and manga have given me so much! <3
2. Weeb vs Otaku which are you? – Otaku for sure. And for life! ^_-
3. What are some manga that gets overlooked you recommend- Ooooh! There are so many! I always recommend ANY MANGA BY CLAMP! Their artstyle is gorgeous and storytelling captivating. Plus, they have an array of genres for everyone. I mean, they have been around and amazing since the late 80s, so that tells you something. I have done several Top Ten List of CLAMP’s work! 🙂
Others I love that I think everyone should read: ANYTHING by ARINA TARAMURA! =D “Stepping on Roses,” “Drama Con,” “Orange,” “Love and Heart,” “Mermaid Boys,” “Miracle Girls,” and SO MANY OTHERS! I have a list of every series I have read/currently reading and ranked (by their company) HERE!
4. You can only read one manga for the rest of your life which is it?: Oh! That’s hard! I’m going to fudge this a little bit and pick only one manga-ka: either only works by ‘CLAMP’ OR ‘Arina Tamamura.’ If you are making me choose ONE SERIES, I would pick ‘Ouran High School’ Or ‘Fruits Basket.’
5. Favorite nonanime show? – OOOH! I love a lot. I grew up in 90’s and early 00’s, so I lucked out! “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Teen Titans (original,)” “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” and “Rugrats” are ones I can watch on repeat and still get thrilled. Yet, there are several! =) I do love “RWBY” AND the new “She-Ra: Princesses of Power” too (a fan of the original too of course.)
6. Would color do you think of when you like about our friendship?- I see lavender for our friendship color: soothing, easy, connection, fun, playful, cute on the outside, but can be BA on the inside, and full on nerds. Plus, we both look amazing in it! ^_-
7. Your favorite memory of us? – You mentioned our modern one of our Anime Otaku Girls Meeting and drama camp where we met is incredible. 🙂 I also loved the sleepovers during high school: watching “Howl’s Moving Castle” for the first time outside in a tent, trying biscuits and gravy for the first time and loving it, decorating your yard to make a haunted house for tricker-or-treaters while we walked about to get our own costume and candy on! Also, CONVENTIONS! Those are always a sweet party! Cannot wait for more of those and other fun times!
