- Where did you grow up? Did your childhood have any impact on your passion for literature?
“I grew up in Dublin, Ireland. Absolutely! My childhood revolved around video games and movies, and it sparked a creativity in me that eventually led to me reading fantasy and then moving on to acting. Both Camera and Voice work.” 😊
2. What were some of the first voices/impressions you did growing up?
“I used to imitate celebrities and characters from TV and Movies. One of the very first was probably Gollum/Smeagol from ‘The Lord of the Rings.'” 😊
3. What are you currently working on?
“Just finished up ‘This Witch is Not Wicked’ by Tee Harlowe & just finished as bunch of collaboration duet work for “Human Voices Only”. Also have 3 or 4 projects over the next few weeks.“
4. Who are your favorite characters you have ever voiced/acted as and why?
“My 3 favorite characters from previous audiobook projects are ‘Lucifer’ from ‘The Curse of the Guardians’ series by Taylor Aston White, ‘West’ from ‘The Four Horsemen’ series by Sarah Bailey, and ‘Nevan’ from ‘This Witch is Not Wicked’ by Tee Harlowe.”
5. What are your warm-up methods before recording or auditioning?
“I love to do voice-over challenges, whether these are simply pulling excerpts from books and performing them over and over, mixing vocal tones and accents, or engaging in the challenges seen across TikTok.”
6. What was your path like until you found narration?
“I’ve worked in everything from sales, tech, broadband support agent, welding, machine operator; the list goes on. I eventually started to make some progress with acting, and I pulled the plug on my day job, and years later I’m still working in the field.”
7. How is your relationship with your publishing companies or authors you work with? What is the key to a good rapport with them?
“I make it my business to create a personal relationship with every single author, narrator, producer & engineer I have the pleasure of working with. Everyone in the space is here for the same reason. We want to write stories, perform and tell tales, build worlds, and have people fall in love with characters we created from within ourselves.”
8. What are some of your favorite audiobook covers from books you’ve worked on and why?
“One of my favorite book covers is ‘This Witch is Not Wicked’ by Tee Harlowe. Beautiful artwork and absolutely perfect for her story.“
9. What actors/narrators/voice actors inspire you?
“Some of my favorite actors, who I believe were absolutely born to act, born to tell stories. Al Pacino, Viggo Mortensen, Russell Crowe, Cillian Murphy, Ian McKellen.”
10. How do you get reviews?
“I receive reviews across many different platforms. Audible, Instagram, TikTok, etc. But I do not read my own reviews. I simply move on to the next opportunity. We don’t look to the past. We look forward to the future.”
11. What is hardest: recording, the technology you use, editing, or marketing?
“The recording is the part we love most; marketing and admin work is the least favorite for most narrators, I think.”
12. What type of book character or genre of audiobook do you dream of doing that you have not yet?
“I’m a huge fantasy fan; thankfully, I’ve done plenty. However, I’ve yet to do a slow-burn thriller or mystery, which I absolutely love. But I have nothing but time. I’ll get there.”
13. Tell us about your experience with dual and duet narration for audiobooks.
“I have worked across both Dual & Duet audiobooks. I much prefer duet simply because the collaboration to be able to create a back-and-forth dynamic with another performer is irreplaceable as an actor. Collaboration makes us all better performers. We grow through collaboration. And we can create real magic.”
14. What do you do to relax?
“I like to write, read, and relax with a video game and coffee from time to time. And movies. All the movies!”
15. If you could tell your 14-year-old self one thing, what would it be?
“Worry about yourself; don’t entertain what anyone else thinks. Focus on chasing what you want, and ignore what others tell you. You aren’t living your life for them. And you only get one. Don’t waste it.”
16. What advice would you have for this upcoming generation?
“When you find your path, follow it. Sometimes you have to leave others behind if they don’t positively add to your life. What you want can be achieved, but you must go after it. It will not be handed to you. Anything worth having isn’t easy, and anything easy isn’t worth having.”
17. Have you ever read a book/series that changed your outlook on life?
“Far too many to list here, but yes, absolutely. Books, Movies, TV Shows, even certain conversations, have changed my entire outlook on life.”
18. Do you have a classic piece of literature or a classic author you are fond of?
“Always good to read the likes of Yeats, Shakespeare, Poe.”
19. Any type of music that gets your juices flowing for working on audiobooks?
“I love acoustic live sessions from some of my favorite bands. Raw, carries more emotion and really sparks my creativity. But mostly that’s for writing or brainstorming. When recording audiobooks, I am laser-focused once I get into my rhythm, which normally only takes 10-15 minutes. After that, no distractions.”
20. If you could pick three people who are your heroes or role models, who would they be and why?
“For Camera Actors: Al Pacino is my number one. Voice Actors: Troy Baker, Nolan North, Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, Doug Cockle, Roger Clarke, to name a few of my favorites.”
21. Dog or cat person?
“Prefer dogs, but I have both.” 😊
22. What do you want to eat right now?
“Buffalo Wings.” 😊
23. If you could be or voice act in any movie that has already been made, which one would it be?
“A movie I’d have loved to be a part of is ‘Devil’s Advocate’ with Pacino and Keanu Reeves. A Masterpiece. A musical? ‘Hamilton’ or ‘Rent.’ A dream voice-over job would have to be the video game ‘The Last of Us.'”
24. What is your favorite holiday or time of year?
“Halloween.” 😊
