Most know that my niche of nerdom is being an otaku. One genre of nerd I am not overly into, sinful to many, is superheroes. However, there was one class of superheroes that I have always liked: mutants. Growing up, I was fascinated with Spider-Man and the X-Men team, their array of abilities amazing me. The fact a bodily change can affect our DNA so differently and their real approach to the rights of different types of ‘humans’ hit the real world hard on the head. The characters were engaging and the world colorful. So, we I decided to do my first superhero cosplay for my Heroes for Kids charity group I am apart of, I knew it had to be an X-Men (they all have X-Men characters too).
My good friend Todd is also getting me into the Marvel superhero films this year, so I can get caught up on all the hype and I have to admit, most aren’t bad. 🙂 Being an otaku is still where my heart it, but I am respecting these superheroes more.
