Ah. “Barbie.” A staple in my childhood, fueling my whimsy, magic, opening the belief in possibilities. I mean; Barbie has literally had every job! LOL! Lovely, bright, caring, role model, creative… She can do it all and look fabulous while doing it. I owned so many products: dolls, of course, collectibles, her siblings and besties, outfits galore, a foldable dream house, horses and carriages, jeep, limo, and even a parlor disco! LOL! Fairy Tale dreams, ones based on films, limited edition beauties, celebrities, younger members of the family, and several variants of her fella (I will always be a Ken girl!)
Then, in 2000, one of the most remarkable fusions in my life happened: they combined my beloved “Nutcracker” with Barbie in her FIRST film (not technically, but the other two before that in the ’80s seemed like rock n’ roll specials involving outer space, lol!) I was in heaven. The original Barbie movies still hold up today with their charm, sprinkles of humor, heart, enchanting lands, and characters that are familiar.
Like all franchises, there are some that fill me with happiness and warmth and some that just do not hit the mark exactly. I followed every film until 2006. I challenged myself to watch as many of the 42 Barbie movies there are! 0.o Dang! I purchased many of the ones I needed used and a few were on Netflix only. The ones I did not watch were ones where I watched the preview and could not even handle that, lol!
